Part 1: The idea for my story, "A Christmas Love Story: Nicholas Nutcracker & Brittany Ballerina" came to me while packing up my beloved Christmas ornaments this past Christmas.
After watching Hallmark feel-good Christmas movies the entire month of December 2019, I reached "Christmas Spirit" saturation (in a good way). It made me want to open an online store selling unique Christmas merchandise. While on the way to find out more about that idea, I found a cute clip art of a dangling nutcracker next to a ballerina, hanging from a Christmas tree branch. The nutcracker dressed in a red uniform and the ballerina dressed in a blue tutu were so darn adorable! My blog friends, that was the idea that spawned a Christmas children's book.
For the first few months of 2020, I wrote and wrote some more. I imagined my characters and added a few of them to the story. Then, I re-wrote, tweaked, moved words and sentences around, and wrote more. Into about the tenth revision, I decided it was time to give it to my husband Rich to read. He read it, and he said, "it's cute." Cute! If you knew Rich, you would know "cute" is not a common everyday word that comes out of his mouth. It made me feel like I was kind of onto something special; maybe just maybe, this would be something that children and their parents might enjoy reading at bedtime during the Christmas holidays?
